MCAT prep with AI — drill what you reviewed across all four sections.

The MCAT is a ~7.5-hour exam scored 472–528 across four sections, and it rewards retention over months. Skoolskill is an AI tutor that turns your own content review and practice questions into daily 15–20 minute drills. A companion to a full prep plan — not a replacement. Free to start, or about $6.99/month.

What MCAT prep actually needs to do

The MCAT is a roughly 7-hour-30-minute exam for medical-school admission, scored 472–528 across four sections with 500 as the midpoint. It covers more than a year of biology, biochemistry, general and organic chemistry, physics, psychology and sociology — far too much to cram. The hard part isn’t learning a topic once; it’s still remembering it months later while you cover everything else.

Let’s be frank about Skoolskill’s role here. It is not a full MCAT course and cannot teach you the content from zero. It is the daily drilling and spaced-repetition layer that sits on top of your real content review — your course, your books, or AAMC materials — and keeps what you’ve learned from fading. Skoolskill is an AI tutor that turns your own content review and practice questions into daily 15–20 minute drills.

The four sections at a glance

SectionQuestionsWhat it tests
Chem/Phys59General chemistry, physics and some biochemistry in a biological context
CARS53Passage reasoning with no outside content knowledge
Bio/Biochem59Biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, some general chemistry
Psych/Soc59Psychology, sociology and biology of behavior

Each section is scored 118–132; the four combine to 472–528.

How daily MCAT drilling fits a full plan

PhaseYour full prep doesSkoolskill adds (daily)
Months 1–3Content review, topic by topicSpaced repetition of each topic’s high-yield facts
Months 3–4Full-length AAMC practice testsDrill the discrete-fact misses; rebuild weak topics
CARS (throughout)Daily passages from your prepExtra passages and answer-reasoning review
Final weeksTimed full-lengths for staminaLight fact review to hold retention

A few discrete topics carry an outsized share of memorization marks — amino acids, enzyme kinetics, hormones, and the psychology/sociology vocabulary. These are ideal spaced-repetition material; our flashcard maker turns your notes into them automatically. For the underlying science, our biology tutor and chemistry tutor reinforce the concepts.

Why CARS is the section drilling helps least

CARS deserves a frank caveat. Unlike the three science sections, it tests no outside content — you can’t memorize your way to a better score, and there’s no fact list to spaced-repeat. Improvement comes from reading dense humanities and social-science passages, predicting what the question wants, and reviewing why a tempting wrong answer was wrong. Skoolskill helps by supplying a steady stream of passages and walking through the reasoning, but the gains here are slow and come from volume and honest self-review over months, not from drilling discrete facts. Set your expectations accordingly: science sections respond fast to spaced repetition; CARS does not.

When a prep course or human still matters

  • Always, for content. Skoolskill does not teach MCAT science from scratch — a course, books or AAMC materials are required, not optional.
  • Full-length scaled scoring comes from official AAMC practice tests, which model the real exam best.
  • CARS coaching from an experienced instructor can break a plateau that drilling alone won’t.
  • A weak science foundation (e.g. you never took organic chemistry) needs real teaching first.

Treat Skoolskill as the retention engine beside a complete prep plan — never as the plan itself.

Questions people ask

What are the four MCAT sections?

The MCAT has four scored sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS); Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. The science sections each have 59 questions; CARS has 53.

How is the MCAT scored?

Each of the four sections is scored 118–132, and the four combine into a total from 472 to 528, with 500 set as the midpoint. The full exam, including breaks, runs about 7 hours 30 minutes, making stamina a real part of test-day performance.

Is Skoolskill enough to prepare for the MCAT on its own?

No, and it would be dishonest to claim otherwise. The MCAT covers a year-plus of biology, biochemistry, general and organic chemistry, physics, psychology and sociology. You need full content review (a course, books, or AAMC materials). Skoolskill is the daily drilling and spaced-repetition layer on top of that review.

What is the CARS section and can AI help with it?

CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills) is 53 questions of passage-based reasoning with no outside content — it tests how you read and reason, not what you memorized. AI practice helps by giving you a steady supply of passages and reviewing why an answer was right, but CARS improvement mostly comes from volume and reflection over time.

How long do people study for the MCAT?

Most examinees prepare for 3–6 months, often 300+ total hours. The content is too broad to cram. Daily spaced-repetition review of high-yield facts — amino acids, enzyme kinetics, hormones, psychology terms — keeps earlier material from fading while you cover new topics, which is exactly what Skoolskill automates.

Can Skoolskill grade MCAT-style questions?

Skoolskill drills multiple-choice practice questions and explains the reasoning behind each answer, and it resurfaces the facts you miss using spaced repetition. For full-length, scaled scoring you should use official AAMC practice tests, which model the real exam's scoring most accurately.

Which MCAT topics suit daily spaced repetition best?

Discrete fact recall: amino acid structures and properties, enzyme and metabolism details, the hormones and their actions, key equations in physics, and the psychology and sociology vocabulary in the behavioral-sciences section. These are classic flashcard material and where a spaced-repetition tool earns its keep.
