AP exam prep with AI — daily practice that compounds for every AP course.

AP exams in May don't reward weekend cramming. Skoolskill reads your textbook chapters, tracks your mastery at the unit level, and drills FRQs and multiple choice until May. Pass with a 4 or 5 instead of scraping a 3.

Why AP exams are different from regular tests

AP exams aren’t your Chapter 7 test. A 5 on AP Calc BC proves you can do college calculus; a 5 on AP Chem is a semester of college chemistry. That’s why they’re harder to prepare for:

  • Cumulative: every unit can show up. You can’t skip any.
  • Mixed format: multiple choice + FRQs test different skills.
  • Time pressure: MC sections give you ~80 seconds per question.
  • Rubric-based scoring: FRQs award partial credit for showing work, not just the final answer.

The students who score 4s and 5s aren’t necessarily smarter — they’re the ones who practiced regularly from January to May, instead of cramming the weekend before.

How daily AP prep compounds

A good AP prep plan looks like this:

December–January (20 minutes/day, 5 days/week)

  • Review units you struggled with during the semester
  • Build fluency on formulas, key concepts, foundational skills
  • You don’t need to cover everything — target your weakest units first

February–March (25 minutes/day, 5 days/week)

  • Mix-unit practice — simulate the exam’s cumulative nature
  • Start attempting FRQs with feedback, no time pressure yet
  • Keep reviewing whatever weak units remain

April (30 minutes/day, 6 days/week)

  • Full MC sections under time
  • FRQs under time
  • Full mock exams every weekend

Week before exam (light)

  • Review your error log from prior practice
  • Get good sleep; don’t cram

Skoolskill’s planner does this automatically once you tell it your AP date. Daily prompts adjust as the exam approaches.

FRQ practice with AI

AP Free Response is unique because how you write matters, not just the final answer. AP graders look for:

  • Showing your work for each step
  • Using correct terminology (e.g., in AP Bio: “homeostasis” vs “balance”)
  • Addressing every part of the question
  • Supporting claims with specific evidence

The AI is trained to grade in this rubric style. You’ll see feedback like: “Correct answer for part (a) — earned 1 point. Part (b): correct formula but you forgot to show the substitution step — 1 of 2 points.” This is exactly what AP graders do.

Multiple choice practice

AP MC is all about pattern recognition under time. The AI builds MC practice sessions that:

  • Vary by unit weighting (Calculus BC’s Series unit gets more practice than it would in random practice)
  • Adapt difficulty based on your performance
  • Track which wrong answers you keep picking (a sign of a misconception)
  • Time you so you get used to the ~80-second pace

Essay-heavy APs: History and English

For AP US History, World History, European History, you’ll practice:

  • LEQ (Long Essay Question) — thesis, contextualization, evidence
  • DBQ (Document-Based Question) — analyzing primary sources under time

For AP English Language and Literature:

  • Rhetorical analysis essays
  • Argument essays
  • Literary analysis

You write; the AI evaluates against AP rubric criteria. It does not write for you — which is also how you actually learn.

Questions people ask

Which AP exams does Skoolskill support?

Strong support: AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics 1 and 2, AP Physics C (Mech and E&M), AP Statistics, AP Pre-Calculus, AP US History, AP World History, AP European History, AP English Language, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, and AP Computer Science A. More coming each season.

When should I start AP prep?

December or January is ideal. Daily practice from then through early May gives you real compounding. Starting in April and cramming rarely gets you above a 3. AI tutoring works because of the daily part, not because of intensity.

Does the AI do FRQs (Free Response Questions)?

Yes. Old FRQs from prior AP exams are in the practice library. You work through them; the AI gives feedback on rubric-style scoring — not just 'right/wrong' but 'partial credit for X, missed Y.' This is closer to how AP graders actually score.

Can I take a full-length AP practice test?

Yes. In the last 4–6 weeks before the exam, you can take timed practice tests with both the multiple choice and FRQ sections. Results feed back into daily practice on your weakest units.

Does the AI know the AP curriculum framework (CED)?

Yes. For each AP course, our topic structure mirrors the College Board Course and Exam Description (CED). Your weak spots are tracked at the unit and topic level that matches how AP is actually tested.

What about AP courses not in your list?

We're adding courses each season. If your AP isn't yet supported, the general AI tutor still works — you can upload your textbook chapters and get quizzed, but curriculum-aligned features come later.

Does it help with the essay-heavy APs (History, English)?

Yes, differently than math APs. For AP History DBQs and LEQs, you draft an essay and get feedback on thesis, evidence use, and contextualization. For AP English, you get feedback on rhetorical analysis and argument writing. The AI doesn't write for you — you write, it evaluates.

What does AP prep cost?

Free to start. Pro ($7.99/month) gives longer tutoring sessions and more daily AI — useful in the final 6 weeks before exams. Compare to a private AP tutor: $40–$100/hour, with typically 1 hour/week.
